Clutches and jammers aren't for every application, but there are many instances where they will out-perform your cam cleats. These types of rope securing devices are particularly useful in situations where you need to accommodate higher loads. Clutches work by keeping the line captive to avoid accidental release using a one-way valve that lets you trim the line in as-needed. However, you cannot ease the clutch until the lever is opened.
